30/365 Diamond
Today was like a diamond in the rough. A beautiful, spring like beach day in the end of January. The sun glistened off the ocean like diamonds. It was gorgeous!

29/365 Photoshop
There are so many instructions on specific post production editing, but I thought I'd have a little fun exploring on my own.

26/365 Macro
This is a little project I tried. Its called a reverse macro shot. This was taken with my kit lens, 18-55mm. I opened up my aperture as high is it would go and then took my lens off, flipped it around and held it tight against my camera. I then took shots of oil floating around in a glass pan filled with water. I placed some fabric underneath the pan.
I'll revisit this project soon and use some of my magnifying filters.

25/365 Indulge
This would be my newest indulgence. Who said you can't have an ice cold bottle of beer while your pregnant?

24/365 Rich
This past year, Topsail island lost a young surfer. What has touched me most about this experience is how the community came together. It warmed my heart knowing that even though our new home is small, it is rich.

22/365 Pink Sky
It was a very cold day, it hailed, it snowed and everything froze. Then, the sun came out just before sunset and lit up the sky. I didn't have a chance to quickly drive over to my favorite spot to photograph the sunset due to the driving conditions. However, I did step outside for a few minutes to take a quick picture...
21/365 Homemade
So, we recently learned that homemade is not always better. I wanted to make Riley homemade mac and cheese and found a popular recipe online. It was not the greatest, but hey, we live and we learn right?
18/365 Hidden talent?
When I was in the 5th grade I had a rather crafty teacher, Mrs. Cowan. For one of our many projects she taught the class for how crochet. For some reason I really got into it, I crocheted about everything I could think of, well after the class was on to different projects. Every once in awhile I get an itch to crochet something, this itch is for a cute little hat for Riley. Hopefully I can continue this reinvented hobby/passion and make some baby hats for our daughter, Ella, who is due to arrive this May.
17/365 Cherish
Chances are if you have gotten me a card from the time I was a young teenager up until now, I still have it. My husband recently made comment about why I save all these cards and wonders what I will ever do with them. The answer? Nothing. So, it got me thinking... Why do I save every card? Well, after some thought I realized why, because of my Mom.
My Mom loves picking out the perfect card for someone. She spends a fare amount of time looking at cards and will even buy cards months in advance if it happens to be suitable for a family member for friends. She saves all of these new cards and even if she ends up forgetting about them, she will still go to the store and look for another perfect card for the special occasion.
Simply put, if someone if going to take the time to pick out a perfect card, for a special occasion, for me and then put thought into what they write in it and mail it to me (which. lets admit is rare these days) I can will cherish it, always.
These are just a small handful I had handy for the photo.

16/365 Dress Up
Dress up is, half the time, an hourly occurrence in our home when it comes to our 3 yr old. She pays major attention to detail and I love capturing it camera!
15/365 Art
Today I joined two local photography groups to walk around downtown Wilmington. Luckily it was in the 50's, which was lovely! I got up early and began my 40 minute drive to the 'big city' and made sure I stopped for something warm to drink. I parked very close to the water front, fed the meter and very excitedly went to meet some fellow photographers (most for my 1st time). It was so much fun and refreshing to just simply talk about everything photography.
This is my favorite picture of the day. It was taken in an alley. I love the texture and colors.

14/365 NC Snowflakes
Yuck! It has been so cold and nasty outside. January can be dreary in North Carolina. We very rarely see snow and the temp drops just enough to not want to go outside and play. Its been a struggle to find things to take pictures of this month. I can't wait until the weather is nice enough for for light jackets. Come on Spring!!!
This is a picture of an art project Riley brought home from preschool. It about as close as we get to snow flakes around here.

12/365 Material Girl
My husband did something awesome on his 3rd snow day of the week... He organized Riley's playroom and let me sleep in. Riley could not pass up an opportunity to play a little dress up and I could not pass up the opportunity to play with a new editing program after capturing this mini material girl.
11/365 Treat
A facebook friend posted a picture of some cupcakes she made. Well, being pregnant, its hard to pass up anything that looks so yummy. I made them the very next night!

5/365 Bling
In my recent months of learning about photography I have become slightly obsessed with searching photographers blogs to see how far this new passion of mine would take me. A pose I have seen often is with newborn babies wearing the wedding rings of the parents. After bath time tonight, Riley and I decided to try and squeeze in this wedding ring photo shoot.

4/365 Before & After
Today was a very relaxed day, so I really had nothing to share. At around 9:30 pm I started walking around our home with my camera, snapping anything. I wasn't happy with my pictures, until I decide to start thinking outside the box. I decided to take it a step further and play around while editing. Can you guess what this is?

3/365 keepsake
One month before Riley's 2nd birthday I got her a bear from Build-a-bear, she named it 'Little Bear'. In the past year and half she has received many more friends that join her for tea parties, morning cartoons and field trips, yet Little Bear remains her favorite buddy. I can't wait to share these memories with her when she is all grown up.
Yes, I understand its been a few months since Halloween, but I have a very cool little girl who loves to play dress up.

2/365 Escape
We are fortunate enough to live minutes away from the ocean. Many people associate the beach with summer. However, some of my favorite outings have become short visits in the winter. It feels like a little escape from day to day life.
I chose two pictures today, I just couldn't decide.

1/365 beginnings
During my journey through photography, I learned something interesting about my father. He also shares the passion and he handed down a cool little gem to me this Christmas. This was his old-school Pentax 35mm camera that he used when my brothers and I were little. I'm going to have fun exploring with this!

365 Day Photo Challenge 2011
I have always had a passion for pictures. I often found myself sitting down during Sunday afternoons flipping through old photos and reminiscing. Soon after, I began making colleges & photo calenders for friends and family. I got my first digital camera in 2004 and it went everywhere with me. I captured every moment that I could. When my husband and I first met, he referred to me as 'picture girl' and that was with a point and shoot. When our daughter was born in July 2007, I took that many more photos to capture the many moments. That is when the real creativity kicked in and I wanted to learn how I could take it to the next level. In May 2010, I took the plunge and purchased a semi-pro dslr camera. Since then, I jumped head first into the world of photography and have submerged myself to experience every aspect.
Join me on my journey of improving my skills as I take a photo every day of 2011. Enjoy!
